TableGenie app — privacy policy
The TableGenie app lets you find and book tables at restaurants, cafés and bars on TableGenie Dine, book stays at hotels on TableGenie Stays, and see what is on at cinemas on TableGenie Movies. It is made by Vedanta Techworks ("we", "us"). This policy says what the app collects, why, who sees it, how long it is kept, and how you can have it deleted.
In short: we collect what a booking needs — your phone number, your name and the bookings you make. The place you book sees what it needs to seat you. We do not sell your data, we do not show you ads, and the app carries no advertising or analytics trackers. You can delete your account from inside the app.
What we collect, and why
| Your phone number | To sign you in: we send a one-time code by SMS to check the number is yours. It also goes on your table bookings, so the place can reach you. |
|---|---|
| Your name | So a place knows whose table it is. You can change it in the app (You → your name). |
| Your city and saved places | The city you pick and the places you save, so the app shows them to you on any phone you sign in on. |
| Table bookings | The place, date, time, party size, and the occasion and note you choose to add; whether the booking was kept, cancelled or missed; and, once the place settles your bill through the app, the bill, the discount and what you paid. |
| Stays | When you book a hotel, the hotel's booking holds what you give it — name, phone, email if you add one, guests, dates and requests. The app keeps a link to each stay you book (the hotel, the dates and a booking reference) so you can find it again. |
| Ratings and reviews | The stars and comment you leave after a visit. Your first name appears with your review. |
| Your location | Only when you tap "Near me", to sort places by distance. It is used on your phone and is not sent to us or stored. |
| Missed bookings | A count of bookings you did not turn up for, kept so that places can trust bookings made in the app (see "Fair use" below). |
We do not collect your contacts, photos, messages or files, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Payments
When you pay a hotel online, you pay the hotel through its payment provider (PayU). Your card or UPI details go to the payment provider, not to us, and we never see or store them. Restaurant bills are paid at the restaurant.
Who sees your information
- The place you book sees your name, phone number, party size, time, occasion and note — what it needs to seat you. It is told of new bookings in its partner app and by email. Other places never see your bookings.
- The hotel you book sees the details on your stay, as with any direct booking.
- Other app users see only your first name with a review you leave.
- Our team can see bookings to help when something goes wrong, and to keep the service fair.
- Our service providers run the app for us: Google Firebase (sign-in, database, servers and hosting, on Google Cloud), the SMS service Firebase uses to send sign-in codes, and our email provider for booking emails to places. They handle your data only to provide that service.
- The law: we disclose information when the law requires it.
We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
Fair use
A place holds a table for you when you book. If you miss three bookings without cancelling, you can no longer book tables in the app and are asked to call the place instead; write to us if you think a booking was marked missed by mistake. So that deleting an account cannot clear this count, it is kept against a scrambled form of your phone number (a one-way hash), which no app or website can read.
How long we keep it
- Your profile — name, city, saved places, saved stays — for as long as you have an account.
- Bookings stay as the place's record of its tables. When you delete your account, your name and phone number are taken off them.
- A hotel keeps its booking records as hotels must.
- The missed-booking count against your phone's hash is kept so the fair-use rule keeps working.
Deleting your account
In the app: open You → Delete my account. If you have a table booked that is still to come, cancel it first — the place is holding it for you.
By email: write to support@vedantatechworks.com from any address, with the phone number you sign in with. We will confirm it is your account and delete it within 30 days.
Deleting your account removes your sign-in, your name, phone number, city, saved places and saved stays, and takes your name and phone number off your bookings and reviews. It does not cancel a stay you have booked with a hotel — contact the hotel for that.
Your choices and rights
- See and correct your name in the app at any time.
- Ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, or to correct or delete it, at support@vedantatechworks.com.
- Turn off location for the app in your phone's settings at any time; everything except "Near me" keeps working.
Keeping it safe
Data travels encrypted between the app and our servers. Access is limited by role: a place can read only its own bookings, a diner only their own, and money and booking rules are decided on our servers, not on a phone.
Children
The TableGenie app is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has used it, write to us and we will delete the account.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and, for an important change, tell you in the app.
